SC Girls Lacrosse Battles Fox Chapel in First Round of PIAA Playoffs

On May 25th, the State High Girls Lacrosse team beat Erie McDowell 9-5 with four goals from Caroline Paterno, two from Brielle Curtis, and one from Carissa Tambroni, Sophie Brandimarte and Elaina Ohlson. This sub-regional win led the team to go on to the PIAA class 3A championship against Fox Chapel. It was played on May 30th at 4 pm at Cumberland Valley High School with the final score 9-10, Fox Chapel winning.

Before the game, Fox Chapel was ranked number 9 in Pennsylvania and 188th in the nation by MaxPreps. Their regular season record was an astounding 21-1. State High’s regular season record was 8-9 and they were ranked 75th in the state by MaxPreps.

State High played confidently in the lead for most of the game until the last few minutes when the score went all the way to 9-8. With one minute to go, Fox Chapel brought the score back up to 9-9 and the players prepared for overtime. A nail biting finish bringing the game to a State High’s season to a close with a goal from Fox Chapel. “We did really well, we played our hearts out,” said junior attacker Caroline Paterno.

Goals for the Lady Little Lions were scored by Brielle Curtis, Erika Lose and Carissa Tambroni, each with two. The additional three goals were scored by Sophie Brandimarte, Kristina Hughes, and Caroline Paterno.

Although this is the end of the 2017 postseason for the Lady Little Lions, they’re still looking forward to next year to improve and win more games. “I really look forward to next season, this year was a great year and we hope to build off of this year into next year,” said Paterno.
