Kesha Fights for Freedom from Sleazy Producer
April 7, 2016
On Friday, February 19th, 2016 pop star Kesha Sebert, formerly known as ‘Ke$ha’ left a New York Supreme courtroom with tears in her eyes after losing her court battle against her former producer, Dr. Luke. The singer accused her producer of 10 years of performing unsolicited acts on her after forcing her to take drugs and drink alcohol. The lawsuit, which was filed in October 2014, states: “Dr. Luke abused Ms. Sebert in order to destroy her self-confidence, self-image and self-worth so that he could maintain complete control over her life and career.” Celebrities like Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato and Lady Gaga have taken to the internet to show their support of Kesha, posting #FreeKesha in their tweets and Facebook posts. Another star, Taylor Swift, donated $250,000 to Kesha to help with her finances and legal fees. Kesha’s attorney, Mark Geragos, requested that she be released from her contract with Sony as they are unlikely to support her after this “scandal” with Dr. Luke. Ultimately, Justice Shirley Kornreich denied the requests and declines to dismiss the claims against Dr. Luke until Kesha’s attorney provides more evidence.
