Forgiveness is a fading leaf,

reddening and decaying

as the whole world grows cold.

Forgiveness falls fast,

as its one connection to truth fades,

and the sullen earth welcomes

a broken promise.

Forgiveness can never be revived.

Instead it must sprout anew

from the seeds of trust and honesty.
