On Saturday March 24th, the State College Boys’ Tennis Team faced some hard games with students from other counties. They finished third out of four teams at the State College Invitational in the PSU Indoor Tennis Center from 11am-6.30pm. The State High Tennis Team played 3 singles, 2 doubles and no repeats.

All the athletes showed up with high enthusiasm. Before the game, all the athletes were doing warm up following their coaches’ instruction. Everyone played with sportsmanship during the game. Even the games were rough, but their steady pace on the field could still be seen.

Erie Cathedral Prep won the invitational title with 10 points. While Dallastown followed the second with 9 points. The State High student-athletes got third with 7 points. Lasalle College finished fourth at the PSU Indoor Tennis Center.

Owen Lloyd lost to Cathedral Prep’s Matt DeMarco with the score of 6-0 and 6-3. DeMarco has won the doubles state title for two years. During the game, State College went to three sets in both finals matches. However, Dallastown won all those games.

After the game, Coach Jane Borden said,”SC played well today. Today’s matches represented some of the top players in the state and all play was really competitive. We had a lot of close matches in the finals and we fell just short in both doubles finals. We are proud of the way the guys competed today. They did a nice job.”
