On Wednesday, November 6th, the State High Bands came together for their first concert of the year. Sophomore Nika Kello, a member of State High’s Symphonic Band, warms up for the band concert on her clarinet. “I had a wonderful experience at this concert. It was amazing to display the product of our hard work at many hours of rehearsals to our friends, family, and other music students,” Kello said.

January 2019 marked the implementation of Safe2Say Something across Pennsylvania school districts. Safe2Say is a state-wide program that enables students and adults to report potential threats of violence and other problems before they happen. However, despite its positive impact and intentions, students have some concerns about the system. “While the ability to provide students with an anonymous reporting system is definitely correct in intention, I think that the incorporation of Safe2Say into our school community has spiraled into yet another mocked and underused school enforced program. Safe2Say is necessary at State High, but it would be much more effective if it was introduced in a less cheesy manner that allowed kids to simply learn about it without the lengthy videos and motivational speeches,” sophomore Clarissa Theiss said.

The top 10 democratic presidential candidates gathered for a climate town hall to discuss how they were going to tackle the climate crisis in their administrations. The town hall lasted for seven hours on September 4th, 2019, where voters were invited to ask the candidates questions. “I want America to come together regardless of Republicans or Democrats or your geography or any other difference,” Beto O’Rourke said. “This is our challenge, and I know that we are up to the test.”
