Last Minute Costumes for Halloween

With Halloween right around the corner many students are excited to showcase their costumes. Some costumes are thought out months in advance while others are created last minute. The costumes below can be inspiration for future years or last minute costumes of your own and all the materials for these costumes can be found around your house, on Amazon or at the Halloween stores in town.

The weekend before Halloween is claimed by most as “Halloweekend”. Prior to “Halloweekend”, many social media platforms like TikTok showcased many people going all out with their costumes in preparation. With the hype surrounding the weekend many students hosted costume parties, allowing other students to showcase what they had come up with.

Junior Sophia Reutzel who attended a costume party explains the thought behind her duo costume with junior Isabel Olson.

“I was Luigi for Halloween this year with my good friend Isabel Olson — who was Mario — and we chose that costume because our friendship has been based a lot about Mario since we became friends,” Reutzel said.“One of the earliest things I remember doing together was playing Mario Kart in my basement and I would always be Luigi so it just made sense for us to go as Mario and Luigi. I feel like it had been a long time coming so I think it was a perfect duo costume idea.”

Reutzel later explained where her costume came from.

“I actually had all the stuff at home, Isabel just bought Mario and Luigi hats off Amazon and we just took green and red shirts and paired them with overalls. We wanted to do a group costume because it’s fun to dress up with your friends and go to a party so it was perfect,” Reutzel said.

Dressing up with friends can often be fun. Duo costumes can be fun to create with many iconic duos like, Mario and Luigi, Serena Vanderwoodson and Blair Waldorf, and Fred and Daphne. Group costumes are also a popular choice, instead of a bunch of friends doing solo ideas. Popular group costumes include characters from “The Wizard of Oz”, “Alice in Wonderland” and “Stranger Things”.

For group costumes, sophomore Anna Herickhoff shared her group costume.

“This year, I’m Eeyore from ‘Winnie the Pooh’ with a group of friends and they’re the other characters. We went to a Halloween party and we are also going to wear [the costumes] trick-or-treating. I’m wearing a onesie that I got off Amazon and we picked ‘Winnie the Pooh’ because we thought it would be cute and comfortable,” Herickhoff said.

Some students have multiple costume ideas such as sophomore Allison Valeri.

“My friends and I first chose ‘bubble gum’ because we wanted something cute but also not super basic. So we got pink workout sets from Amazon and little yellow pom poms from Michaels,” Valeri said.

“But we also managed to change our costume every 15 minutes so now we are thinking of being  ‘Soulja Boy’ the rapper because we saw it on TikTok and it was funny, quick, cheap and an easy costume to put together. We are basically using things we have around the house with white shirts, gray sweatpants, gold necklaces, white sunglasses and baseball hats,” Valeri said.

Surprisingly, many of these costumes are not the expected popular costumes for this year. These costumes include Barbie and Ken, Wednesday Addams, and Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. So whether students are taking inspiration from the costumes above or wearing a personal idea, enjoy this fun occasion to get dressed up!
