About

Lions’ Digest is the student-run online and print news publication from State College Area High School’s journalism program. Lions’ Digest publishes daily/weekly online content and produces one print issue per year, the graduation issue. 

Our Mission

We serve State High students with authentic and fair stories that reflect the news and culture of State College Area School District and record the events of the school year for students, community members, and alumni. 

Our Values

• Authenticity: We aim to act as a reflection of the issues and events that are most important to State High students and the greater community. 
• Fairness: We strive to cover all topics with fairness and accuracy, without lean or bias. It is critical to ensure equal coverage for the benefit of our readers and our community. 
• Respect: We aim to give all readers, interviewees, and topics the attention and sensitivity that they deserve while conducting ourselves in the best interest of our publication. We strive to minimize harm in all aspects of the reporting, writing, and editing processes. 
• Impact: We aim to cover challenging events that are meaningful to the student body. We strive to share the emotions and experiences of our community, creating compelling and motivating stories that are meaningful to State High and the surrounding communities.
• Autonomy: We strive to allow students the space and freedom to express themselves through their work without being censored while following media law and ethical guidelines.

Takedown Policy

State High Publications’s general policy is to limit changes or removal of any published content (including quotes, names and information). Prior to publication, the Editorial Board will have worked to ensure that the information provided is factual and accurate. For these reasons, the board will refrain from taking down articles except in outstanding circumstances. 

Takedown requests must include a reason for the request. If this information is missing, the requester will receive a follow-up message asking for this information in writing. If this reasoning is not obtained, the request will not be considered. 

Upon each request, the Editorial Board will review the request and determine the action to be taken. It will consider if the content: 

• Presents false information (that was false at the time of publication), is potentially libelous or dangerous
• Is an unwarranted invasion of privacy,  is obscene or has copyright infringement
• Violates the Code of Ethics as provided by the Society for Professional Journalists
• Contains sufficient evidence of ongoing personal harm 
  • The harm presented will outweigh all other factors.

Once the Editorial Board comes to a consensus and has voted on the request, the requester will be notified with the decision, along with the rationale for the decision.
