On Oct. 10, boys soccer won a thriller match in double overtime 1-0. Before the game, all the seniors got to walk out with people of their choosing to a big round of applause and gifts to reward all their hard work throughout the season.
Senior Deondre Sheffey described what it was like to be recognized. “It’s an honor, I’ve been working hard to get where I’m at, putting in the hours in training and keeping my head high, I may not get the minutes I want but it’s still great to be out here,” Sheffey said.
Rand Parrillo also shared what it was like to be recognized on senior night. “It’s truly amazing, especially Dre and Mo. They traveled to every game, but sometimes they don’t play. Tonight, they showed out, and even if they haven’t played every game, they showed out tonight,” Parrillo said.
The first and second halves were a battle of defense with both sides having opportunities to score but not being able to capitalize. No team could carry momentum long enough to where they could score.
Every time either side would build some sort of momentum the other team would eventually stop it and build their momentum, and it stayed like that for all of regulation.
Even in the first overtime, it seemed neither team was going to let up, it was just a matter of who and when someone would make a play. With a few minutes left to go in double OT and the season on the line, they needed someone to make a play and Perrillo did just that.
Parrillo scored the game-winning goal and described the win. “It honestly feels surreal to be at that kind of minute, and just to celebrate with my team, it feels amazing,” Parrillo said.
Sheffey also described how big this win was for the team. “It feels amazing, storming the field after a teammate hits a banger with his left foot, top left right behind the keeper it’s amazing,” Sheffey said.
The team battled the ups and downs to pull off a much-needed win as their season closed. Even as the temperature dropped later in the night, the crowd still showed their support throughout the match. With this win the team moves to 4-7-3 and looks to carry this momentum with the season winding down and a playoff spot still up for grabs.
