On March 2, the 97th Academy Awards ceremony was held in Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles. The pre-ceremony show “On The Red Carpet at the Oscars,” started at 3:30 p.m, followed by “The Oscars Red Carpet Show” at 6:30 p.m. The main ceremony, where the 23 Oscar statuettes were granted, began at 7:00 p.m. ET.
The pre-show presented an opportunity for the actors to show off their fashion sense. This year’s red carpet trend featured loads of shimmer and crystals. Nominee in the Best Original Song category, Selena Gomez wore a dress made of 16,000 glass drops. Actor Demi Moore was dressed in a silver, shining dress by Armani Prive. Timothee Chalamet’s yellow suit was made by the French luxury brand Givenchy.
Conan O’Brien, known for late-night talk-shows, hosted this year’s ceremony. “I got paid $15,000 to host the Oscars. And there is one of me!” he said.
Zoe Saldaña’s name is written in Oscar history as the third Latina to win the Best Supporting Actress award. Isabella Rossellini, Monica Barbaro, Felicity Jones and Ariana Grande were among the other nominees for the award. Many “Wicked” fans were rooting for Ariana Grande.
“I feel like Ariana Grande would probably deserve an Oscar with her acting work for Wicked…her acting style is very playful, eccentric and she stands out,” sophomore Evie Mueller said.
However, Wicked fans’ wishes came true when the movie got two awards. American costume designer Paul Tazewell won the Best Costume Design award, and the team of Nathan Crowley and Lee Sandales received the Best Production Design Oscar.
The Best Actor title was given to Adrien Brody for his acting in “The Brutalist.” In addition, the drama film received the Best Original Score Award for having an original dramatic underscoring as well as the Best Cinematography Award.
The film “Anora,” directed by Sean Baker proved to be a huge success. The film received five Oscars, including Best Director, Best Picture, Best Actress for Mikey Madison, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.
From the awards that it won its fair to say “Dune: Part Two” had exceptional film production elements. The film won two Academy Awards of Merit; Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.
Animated films are progressing from the start of the 20th century. The 3D technology animated movie “Flow” won the Best Animated Feature award, and “In the Shadow of the Cypres” won the Best Animated Short title.
When getting the Oscar for the Best Original Song Camille Audiard said “ We wrote “El Mal” as a song to denounce corruption and we hope it speeds to the role; music and art can play and continue to play as a force of the good”.
The event celebrated the finest movies, actors, actresses and true masterpieces of the cinematographic world.
“[The Oscars] encapsulates the whole year,” freshman Sarah Alexander said.
