IMBA, also known as Intramural Basketball Association, has proven to be a fun after-school activity for State High students. This season’s success has been unlike any other.
Sophomore Shane Markowski, who plays for the Yucky Nets, commented on the success of the IMBA. “It’s great for the league. You know, last year didn’t go too well, but this year, it’s been a really good comeback year for the league,” Markowski said.
Junior Jack Snyder, who is one of the IMBA’s commissioners and plays for Los Jovenes, also commented on the success of the IMBA. “It’s great. I mean last year wasn’t the best. We started in March and only got five games in our regular season. So this year, we got a team that had up to eleven games this season,” Snyder said.
Snyder and junior Dylan Briggs are co-commissioners of the league. Snyder has been playing in the league for two years prior to being a co-commissioner. Snyder commented on what being a commissioner is like.
“It’s a lot of work, but it’s fun. Me and Dylan run the league together. We kind of split the work in half, so it’s less work than if I was doing it alone. We decided to keep points and rebounds this year, which was new from past years,” Snyder said.
Markowski commented on what he wants people interested in joining the IMBA to know about the league.
“There’s nothing to lose from playing IMBA. You play a game once or twice a week, you have fun, you talk trash to people. It’s the most fun thing you can do all winter,” Markowski said.
Snyder also commented on what he wants people interested in joining the IMBA to know about the league.
“Get a team together with your friends. It’s a lot of fun. You don’t have to win. My freshman year, my team didn’t win a game, lost by 80 in our first ever game, and we had a lot of fun. So it’s not all about winning. It’s just a fun league to spend time with your friends,” Snyder said.
Snyder mentioned the difficulty of being a commissioner and player in the league.
“You’ll always get accusations that you’re rigging the league towards yourself, or you’re giving yourself easy schedules, but it’s a lot of fun. I think we know the team we play against very well when we play them. But I’d say the playing part makes the other part fun,” Snyder said.
This season Tristan Rogers led the league with 19.6 points per game, Jack Coleman took second with 17.4 and Eddie Corkery took third with 16.6.
The league leader in rebounds per game is Sebastian Rhoades with 10.8, second is Jake Hranicka with 10.7 then in third is Sam Mayer with 10.1.
Snyder led the league with 5.3 assists per game. Gavin Zaffino also passed the ball around with 5.2 assists and Eddie Corkery took third with 4.8 assists.
IMBA even had MVP awards with Coleman winning League MVP and Rhoades winning Finals MVP.
This season was definitely one of the best seasons yet for IMBA. With many years of IMBA in the past, what they did this season definitely worked.
