The End For Our Heroes: Avengers Endgame Review
May 8, 2019
It was May 2nd, 2008. Fans lined the streets, hoping to get a glimpse of the cast of Ironman at its premiere.
Ironman was played by no ordinary actor. Robert Downey Jr. had been cast into the iconic role as Marvel’s flagship superhero for the franchise.
Later that same year, The Incredible Hulk graced screens all of the world. Mark Ruffalo had officially joined the Marvel franchise as the “strongest avenger”.
When Chris Hemsworth hit theatres as Thor in 2011, fans began to catch wind that he would be another great addition to the growing team of superheroes that Marvel seemed to be developing.
After some convincing by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans joined the ultimate team of crime-fighting heroes as Captain America.
In 2012, a team of six intergalactic (but mostly…inter) crime-fighting superheroes joined forces to stop the evil Loki and his Chitauri army. Captain America, Ironman, the Hulk, Thor, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye proved to be the world’s greatest protectors. The Avengers began a story of unity and teamwork that would grow for years to come.
In 2015, the second installment of the Avengers movies joined the bunch as Avengers: Age of Ultron. This movie introduced fans to two very key players: the Vision and Scarlet Witch.
On April 27th, 2018, Avengers: Infinity War shocked fans with its surprising and equally dissatisfying ending. QUOTE
On Friday, April 26th, 2019, the final entry of the 22-film Marvel Cinematic Universe Infinity Series hit theatres. According to Voa News, Endgame was projected to make in the $800 million range during its opening weekend. By Saturday night, the film had made over $1.2 billion and smashed every record previously held for an opening weekend.
Within 2 weeks, Endgame was the second highest grossing film of all time. It beat box office icon Titanic. “Endgame completely shattered my expectations and more. The Russo Brothers are true geniuses and truly created a spectacular finish to the series,” senior Ryan Batista said.
SPOILER ALERT:
Robert Downey Jr.’s Ironman and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow had two of the most noble endings in Marvel franchise history. Without giving away too many details, the two characters will not see another film in their future. “It was the perfect send off to some of my favorite characters who passed away — demonstrating the balance between being human and being hero,” junior Graham Fetterolf said.
Although this era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is coming to a close, fans would not have it any other way. “I was sad that all the Avengers are gone, but I wouldn’t change anything because the movie was great,” senior Cohen Russell said.
