“Last year I had this terrible migraine and we didn’t know what it was or what caused it, so I went to the ER and we found out that it was actually a hemiplegic migraine. It was really strange getting diagnosed with a medical condition, being hospitalized for a long period of time, and missing so much school. It was super frustrating because there’s no set cure or medication that works for everybody. [The doctors] had to test a bunch of them so it was really frustrating to have my medicine changed all the time because each medicine came with different side effects. It actually ended up being really good for me because I feel like I’ve learned a lot from it, especially patience. I also met my doctor, and he’s super nice and so good at making sure I’m comfortable with everything that’s going on. That made me want to be a doctor, so now I know what my career path is going to be. I feel like that’s a lot better than what I probably would be doing without that terrible experience.”
