“I look back at my own high school experience. I was super disconnected. I didn’t really like high school. I hung out with a lot of people who were out of high school. I did not engage very much at all. But I love kids at this point of their life because the world is still their oyster and there’s so much potential for what’s to come. Students in high school are really old enough to start exercising their own independent thoughts and ways and how they want to achieve something or don’t want to achieve something. They have a lot of agency over their life. I just really want to be a supportive adult. It’s also the hardest time. I want people to feel like they have an ally. You know what I mean? Without any judgment. I just think everyone is completely special in their own way because they are their own human being. I just wanna support students and cheer them on. Because, I mean, who doesn’t need people to cheer them?”
