Must-Read Page Turners of 2025

As 2024 comes to a close, highly anticipated new book releases are just around the corner. Book lovers are excited and ready for the release of several well-known titles. This year promises to be a thrilling one for releases of many popular titles with different genres and themes. The coming year  has an exciting set of new books, from many popular authors, that already have people talking on social media.

The popularity of Suzanne Collins’ “The Hunger Games” has produced a plethora of popular movies and merchandise, leaving fans wanting more. “Sunrise on the Reaping,” to be released in March 2025, builds upon the world of Panem and explores the beginnings of the “Hunger Games.” This novel will dive deep into the rise of the Capitol and the roots of Haymitch Abernathy’s story, exploring themes of survival and sacrifice. “Hunger Games” fans are ready to continue the legacy and return to this exciting dystopian world.

Senior Hannah Majewski talked about her excitement for the new book.

“[I’m excited for] Sunrise on the Reaping because I read The Hunger Games books when I was little and I feel like this one is going to be very good,” Majewski said. “[I want] like a re-immersion into the old books and [go back to] the headspace that I was in when I read the old books because it was very, very good.”

The author of the original “Wicked” book, Gregory Maguire, is back with “Elphie: A Wicked Childhood.” The novel will further explore the popular character Elphaba, the misunderstood Wicked Witch of the West, who has gained popularity through the original book, the musical, and the new movie. While “Wicked” showed Elphaba’s story from a different perspective, “Elphie” is ready to give readers and fans a closer look at her younger years. For fans of the franchise, “Elphie” promises to give readers a closer look into one of the most popular anti-heroes.

Senior Addie Marshall shared what she hopes to get out of the book.

“[I want to read] Elphie: A Wicked Childhood because I love Wicked,” Marshall said. “[I want to have] some new perspectives on Elphie and her childhood and what that was like.”

John Green, author of popular books like “The Fault in Our Stars” and “Looking for Alaska,” takes a new approach in 2025 with his nonfiction book “Everything is Tuberculosis.” This book dives deep into the history of one the world’s deadliest diseases and how it became a large societal crisis. Green will look into the emotional and physical toll of living in an era where everyone is terrified of becoming infected and dealing with the grief that comes with  loss. Green’s trademark relatability is bound to attract many readers around the world.

Senior Ivan Atwood talked about how this book is his predicted top read for 2025.

“[I want to read] ‘Everything is Tuberculosis’ by John Green. I’m a really big John Green guy and I don’t know, tuberculosis fascinates me.” Atwood said. “This is a book about something I’m interested in. I want to go read it. [I want to have] more knowledge on it and how it works as a disease.”

With all the new books coming out, many authors have debated on how to go about promoting them. As books on social media gain more popularity with “BookTok”, influencers choose books to promote on their page. Social media has the power to elevate these books from anticipated titles to global excitement, boosting their popularity before they even hit the shelves. The ability to connect readers and build recommendations ensure that these books are set for a successful release in 2025.

Junior Eliza Marcovitch discussed how she feels social media influences the popularity of books.

“I just think it’s a huge platform that has a very wide reach among lots of different people and different places of the world and different ages,” Marcovitch said. “It’s just a huge demographic.”

These exciting releases are just a few of some books coming out in 2025. Whether you’re a fan of dystopian, fantasy or nonfiction, there’s something for everyone this new year. It’s time to revisit old favorites and discover fresh narratives. Mark your calendars and get ready to read captivating stories.
