Lorde is officially back, and she’s coming in strong with a brand new album titled  “Virgin”, dropping on June 27, 2025. Accompanying her album, she’s hitting the road for the “Ultrasound World Tour”. The tour will take her all over North America and Europe from September through December. If you’ve been missing her unique sound and lyrics, this new era is something to get excited about.

“I love Lorde, and I’m really looking forward to her new album because she hasn’t released music for a long time,” sophomore Ryder Cunningham said.

“Virgin” is Lorde’s fourth studio album, and from her single “What Was That” it sounds like she’s exploring deep and personal themes this time. She worked with producers like JIm-E Stack and artists like Blood Orange (Dev Hynes), Dan Nigro, and Buddy Ross, which is a major change from her past albums. She’s not just switching up her sound, but also opening up about her identity in a way fans haven’t seen before.

In an interview, she talked about how she doesn’t always feel like just one thing, saying, “I’m a woman except for the days when I’m a man.” The lyrics reflect that mix of emotions and self-discovery.

Her lead single, “What Was That,” came out in April and already has fans obsessing over its vibe. It’s sparked a trend online that people are calling “Lorde Summer,” where everyone’s leaning into vintage looks, dress shirts, baggy jeans, and the cool aesthetic she’s known for.

“Her new song, ‘What Was That,’ is probably my new favorite song. I like her style, too. She deserves to be trending online since she has been gone for so long. Her style pretty similar to mine because I wear baggy jeans, so that’s something I can connect to her with,” junior Andrew Haag said.

The “Ultrasound Tour” kicks off in Austin, Texas, on September 17 and wraps up in Stockholm, Sweden, on December 9. Lorde has called it one of her most meaningful tours yet and says she wants it to feel like a shared experience between her and her fans, like everyone’s part of the story.

In an interview, Lorde specifically said, “I am going on tour in support of my new album, ‘Virgin’. Every show I play is a collaboration between you and me. We meet in a room and we make music together, our bodies and the machines in search of something bigger together…12 years of meeting up and making sound that’s just for us. Since last time, I’ve been stripping away unnecessary layers, finding us more room to move. I think that Ultrasound could be our masterpiece.”

She’s bringing along some cool opening acts too, including Blood Orange, Japanese House, Nilüfer Yanya, and Chanel Beads. Each show has a slightly different lineup, so check the date closest to you to see who’s performing. Tickets went on sale May 16, and some cities have already added extra dates because of how fast they’re selling out.

“Unfortunately, I will not be seeing her on tour, but I am excited to see how other people like it and how she will change between concerts,” Haag said.

This album and tour feel like a huge turning point for Lorde. After taking time to reflect on herself and her art, “Virgin” is her way of starting fresh and letting fans in on her journey. Whether you’re a longtime listener or just getting into her music, this is definitely a moment worth paying attention to.

If the rest of the album is anything like the first single, we’re in for something special. With a tour that’s shaping up to be unforgettable, 2025 might just be the year of Lorde.
