The 2025 Golden Globes was a night to remember, brimming with famous celebrity wins, iconic fashion, surprising moments and historic achievements. As one of the most anticipated nights in Hollywood, the ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA on Jan. 5 and aired on CBS at 8 p.m. This celebrated event brought together the brightest stars of television and film, recognizing the best of the entertainment industry over the past year.
This year’s nominations showcased a strong Latin and Hispanic influence, with nine Latin actors honored and several recognized films and TV shows portraying themes important to the community. “Emilia Pérez” led the film categories with ten nominations, followed by “The Brutalist” with seven nominations, and “Conclave” with six nominations. In television, “The Bear” took the lead with five nominations, followed by “Only Murders in the Building” and “Shōgun” with four nominations each.
Sophomore Ryder Cunningham commented on his excitement for the winner of Best Actress in a Television Drama award in “Shōgun.”
“[Anna Sawai] won for Best Female Actress in a TV Series in Shogun, and I thought that was really well deserved because I just finished that show like the day before the Golden Globes, and she was a very convincing, vulnerable actor in that role,” Cunningham said.
The award show also made history with several first-time achievements. Nikki Glaser became the first woman to solo host the Golden Globes. Karla Sofía Gascón made history as the first transgender woman nominated for performance by a female actress in a motion picture-musical or comedy. Denzel Washington, with his eleven nominations, became the most-nominated Black performer in Golden Globes history.
Senior Claire Dworsky mentioned how much she loved the first female solo host of the Golden Globes, Nikki Glaser.
“I thought [Nikki Glaser] was really funny,” Dworsky said. “I really enjoyed watching her make jokes and her presence was very forward.”
This year’s Golden Globes did not disappoint when it came to fashion. The red carpet was surrounded by popular celebrities showcasing the latest styles from top designers. One of the standout trends of the night was the prevalence of bold, bright colors. Stars like Emma Stone and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stunned with vibrant choices, with Stone wearing a custom red Louis Vuitton dress and Johnson with a lavender blazer. There was also no shortage of the classic Hollywood trend. Actresses like Cate Blanchett and Charlize Theron had old school, sophisticated looks that conveyed the golden age era of Hollywood.
Senior Katie McQueary gave her thoughts on the fashion choices for the ceremony.
“The fashion was good. It was a little basic, but it was classic, which is good sometimes,” McQueary said. “Sometimes you don’t need to step out of the box, but I was expecting to be more out of the box. But like, I’m happy with it.”
