On Jan. 15, the annual Parent Night and Curriculum Showcase took place at State College Area High School, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event gave parents the chance to get course and program information for the 2025-2026 scheduling process. State High’s counselors and leaders gave a presentation about the scheduling process, along with course representatives from all areas available to answer questions and share information.

Teachers had the opportunity to present their classes, highlighting the overall courses offered in their area, projects and different learning opportunities. Each teacher set up a booth or presentation area where they discussed the learning objectives and impact their course has on students’ growth. Parents and students were able to see firsthand how lessons go beyond textbooks to foster creativity and collaboration among peers.

State High Agricultural Science teacher Morgan Inhoof commented on her appreciation for the event and the ability to showcase her class.

“I do the showcase because I think it’s a really nice way to highlight our program and to kind of put our name out there,” Inhoof said. “I’m hoping to just provide a lot of information about our courses. I don’t know that a lot of people realize the variety of courses that exist at the high school in general.”

The showcase was not limited to just core subjects. State High offers a variety of specialized programs that cater to students’ individual interests and passions. These programs offer different specialized classes that give many students the chance to explore different introductory courses and find their talents. Some of these courses, like the Architecture program, had experienced students put on displays giving visitors a glimpse into the innovative work happening at State High.

Sophomore architecture student Madeline Ferguson talked about how she enjoys the architecture program and why she chose to participate in the showcase.

“I enjoy [architecture] a lot and I feel like I can represent it pretty well,” Ferguson said. “I just like everything about architecture. The drawing, the models, auto-tech, computer work. It’s just a lot of fun in general, and that’s kind of hard to convey but I hope I can do it accurately.”

The showcase featured a presentation by the school’s counselors and administration, which provided an overview of the various programs and initiatives available to students. It highlighted the school’s mission and the educational experiences it offers and reminded parents and students of the school’s dedication to developing learners who are prepared for academic success. The presentation also gave people the opportunity to think about classes for the 25-26 school year and how to schedule classes.

Freshman Eva Prive commented on how she enjoyed the presentation and why she decided to attend the showcase.“[I attended] to learn more about the electives and the choices for next year and if I wanted to add more,” Prive said.

This event marked a successful night, with a representation of our school’s commitment to providing an education that prepares students in all aspects of life. This showcase gave a great boost for future showcases where State High can continue to celebrate the school’s unique offerings and the amazing work done by students and teachers. State High looks forward to building on this momentum and continuing to inspire and educate young students.
