Teacher Appreciation Week is always the first week of May. This year, it fell on May 4-May 10. State High makes its best effort to show teachers that they are important and that students appreciate them. State High plans many activities for teachers and gives them little treats to show them their importance.
“I think Teacher Appreciation Week is so important because teachers don’t get as much recognition as they should for all the work they put in, from making the lesson plans to helping the students expand their knowledge and giving them an understanding of what they are hoping to pursue later in life,” junior Izzy Dubler said.
“Celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week is important because our teachers work so hard all year long for us, so it’s good to give them recognition for what they do,” freshman Raegan Kanaskie said.
Many students don’t always take time to sit and reflect on how important teachers are and how much they do to help students in life. Teachers make lesson plans all year and make sure they are doing what will help their students learn and succeed to the best of their abilities. Teachers always consider their students, and they leave a long-lasting impact on many students as they grow up.
Teacher Appreciation Week is worldwide, and many school districts celebrate to ensure their teachers feel valued and understand how much they mean to the students and families. State High goes above and beyond to show their staff that they are thankful for them and that they are very appreciated here at State High. State High made a coffee bar for staff as they walked into the building, and had people walking around the school with snack and beverage carts for the teachers. On May 8, many varsity athletes from all sports gathered by the front door to clap for teachers as they walked into the building.
“State High raises more awareness for Teacher Appreciation Week than I have noticed at other schools, making sure students and even parents realize the work teachers put in for kids,” Dubler said.
“I think State High is very public about Teacher Appreciation Week and making sure the teachers feel recognized for the work they put in. I think State High gives the teachers more than the elementary and middle schools,” Kanaskie said.
Teachers must realize how valued they are since they are constantly helping students learn and grow as students and people. It’s not every day that teachers are reminded how important and grateful we are for them, so it is very important that when Teacher Appreciation Week comes, we make sure they receive the love and support they deserve.
“The most valuable part of Teacher Appreciation Week is just telling your teacher you are thankful for them and you see how hard they work to be the best teacher they can be,” Kanaskie said.
Teachers do a lot for all of their students and deserve so much recognition, not only during this week, but at all times.
