The second State High indoor track meet was held on Thursday, February 8th at the Penn State Multi-Sport Facility Indoor Track.

State High challenged 14 other high schools: Altoona Area, Bellefonte Area, Harrisburg High School, Hollidaysburg Area, Indiana Area, Jersey Shore Area, Juniata, Mifflin County High School, Penns Valley Area, Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy, Shikellamy, Southern Huntingdon, Tyrone Area, and Williamsport Area.

State High did exceptionally well in the meet with upstanding outcomes from various athletes. Kileigh Kane, Lyndsey Reed, Lance Hamilton, and the girl’s A team in the 4×200, all met the MileSplit US Second Team standard of what is considered “Elite Performances.”

Lyndsey Reed, junior, competed in girl’s pole vault placing first in the event with a height of 12’7”. “It felt good to be back over a bar like that knocking out state and national qualification,” Reed said. “It was a relief to hit that mark last Thursday.” She had been continuously reaching the height 11’6” but knew she could go much higher. Reed also emphasized the importance of staying calm when competing in such tall heights. “I try to keep it simple. Knowing that I’ve practiced jumping thousands of times, I tell myself I shouldn’t treat this time any different than those others.” Reed has done incredibly well in past pole vaulting events and plans to continue doing so throughout her high school career and hopefully into college.

Kileigh Kane, junior, competed in girl’s 800 meter run, placing first in the event with a time of 2:20.04. Kane is pleased with her time but has hopes of improving during the outdoor track season in the months to come. Although she doesn’t normally set time goals to avoid disappointing herself, Kane hopes to drop her 800 meter time down to 2:17. She hopes to continue doing track and cross country in college as well.

The indoor track season is now coming to a close with one last indoor track meet left scheduled to be held on Thursday, February 15th at the Penn State Multi-Sport Facility Indoor track.
