Thunderstorms

Caroline Sparrow

I was in trouble, finding myself falling for
Thunderstorms.
the smell of rain Cleansing the earth; The flash of
lightning
lighting up my world; The rumble of
thunder
rattling the walls of my heart.
But hard lesson learned, Some
Thunderstorms
come armed with
tornados,
winds
with a target, Direct as they tore apart
I.
But they were all just
Thunderstorms.
Never dreamt of meeting a
Hurricane.
You
were like nothing ever before, The simple letters of
Your name:
broken levies,
floods,
water spouts,
all yours to claim.
You were
The Thunderstorm.
But so was
I.
You, The Hurricane,
I, The Monsoon:
full on Category Fives, Perfect
disasters.
Much like our names,
We were meant to be Continents apart.
You were North,
I hailed South.
You were West,
I dawned East.
Our levels of
flash and roar,
Our downpour of
tears,
Our ripping winds of
things torn away,
Our broken levies of
previous heartache
were not meant
to meet.
But,
the trails of Our
swirling storms brushed
just like our fingers.
Then you and I were no longer storms
We,
were human.
and my love was no longer
Thunderstorms.
We dried out the floods,
turned in Our rage of lightning for the sunlight in
Our Eyes
handed over our whipping winds for
slow, quiet dances.
On the cliff, we stood.
I second guessed the water below,
but hands entwined you whispered a
three-word jump.
And I leaped with you.
Out of Storms, we fell
Together
to the mercy of the tides.
Out to seek and find.
One day, waking ashore,
We,
The Hurricane and The Monsoon,
became the lighthouse against
Thunderstorms.
