Humans of State High

“I’m probably proudest of my mom because she’s a woman of color and she immigrated to the United States when she was nineteen for grad school. Despite being a woman and a person of color, she hasn’t let that stop her from having an extremely successful career, although she continues to experience a lot of things at Penn State. She continues to stay here and fight for our education and for us to have a better life and to be able to succeed in our futures. Growing up, it was like a constant struggle of wanting to hide my identity as a Latinx person and always wanting to fit into white stereotypes or trying to look whiter and act ‘white.’ But she’s taught me to be proud of it and to not hide it and to stick up for myself and for others in situations of injustice.”
