State High Girls Lacrosse Pink Out

State High Girls Lacrosse Pink Out

On Friday, March 22, the State High Girls Lacrosse Team held its annual pink-out game against Hershey at the North Turf.

The pink-out game is to represent breast cancer awareness. The program gave away pink ribbons at the game so fans could show their support for breast cancer awareness.

The pink-out game is an important event to many who have a personal connection to breast cancer. Goalie Jacqueline Eveleth said, “I definitely appreciate the awareness in the pink out, because I do think it’s a very big thing around the world.”

Before the varsity game, sophomore Lily Sidwell and her mom walked through the breast cancer tunnel, along with senior Katie Fry and her grandma, and sophomore McKenna Kulka with her cousin.

They walked through this pink tunnel to help represent and show how important breast cancer is, as well as what it means to them as a team. Lily Sidwell started the pink out for the lacrosse team, because it always has a place in her heart, and she wants to share that with her team. They want to make everyone aware that if they are going through something like this, they are not going through it alone.

The JV team took a loss by a final score of 5-4. Varsity also lost 19-4.

The girls put in a lot of effort and never gave up. “If we lose I still feel like my team is still all there for each other,” Eveleth said.

Sophomore defender Samantha Trosko said, “I think that both teams kept fighting as much as possible, and never let our grit down.”

Late in the JV game, the score was tied 4-4, but Hershey scored within the final seconds of the game off of a Little Lion a turnover. Layla Hutchinson led the team in scoring with two, Ella Doby scored one, and Maddie Kopinski also scored one.

In the varsity game, Ella Tambroni scored two goals, Emma Lally and Macey Mitchell each added one.

Even though the team did not put up enough goals to win, the girls still tried their best. Trosko said, “All that matters is that we still kept fighting; even though the other team was already up by 10 points.

Even though they lost, the team kept a positive attitude during the game. Eveleth commented on the team culture by saying, “Everyone’s so encouraging and I always feel so loved and welcome when I’m at practice and at games.”

The State High Girls Lacrosse Team is back on the field on Tuesday, April 2 when they travel to take on Carlisle. It will be back home on April 9 when they take on Chambersburg at Penn State’s Panzer Stadium.
