State High has been consistently trying to find advancements in the daily routine of students and faculty to make everything run as efficiently as possible. One of the most noteworthy changes currently underway at State High is the transition from manually typing in student identification numbers during lunchtime to a more efficient ID card scanning system. This shift helps get rid of the overall lunch line congestion that students endure daily.
For many students, the routine of standing in lunch lines can be a constant source of frustration. As students gather in the cafeteria, eager to refuel after a busy morning of classes, the process of typing in a unique student number, where even mistyping a number can reset the whole process, and delays can stack up quickly. This inefficiency has not gone unnoticed by the administration and faculty at State High, who are continually striving to improve the overall student experience.
“I do enjoy the process way better because it’s a more efficient process than the act of dialing in your number, because there can be mess-ups that used to prolong the process,” sophomore Marshall Shaner said.
The idea to implement ID card scanning during lunch service is one that reflects a broader educational trend toward embracing technology to facilitate more efficient operations. Each student at State High is already issued an ID card, which serves multiple purposes, including building access and, for the lunch service, providing a quick method for checking in. By using these existing cards, students can simply scan their IDs at designated points in the cafeteria, reducing time spent in line.
Transitioning to ID card scanning is about more than just speeding up lunch lines; it is an investment in the well-being of students. With this new system, students can spend more time enjoying their meals, socializing with peers, and preparing for the next classes, rather than waiting in frustration.
Now that it has been inserted, State High faculty have made it a priority to inform students about the new system. Many helpful staff members wait outside to remind students who are entering the cafeteria space to bring along their ID.
“I think it’s a great idea, very efficient, helps with time management. I mean, there’s really no downside to it. Unless some people forget to bring their ID, then they still have to type in the number anyways…it’s a good mix,” sophomore Josh Marcinkevage said.
Students who forget to bring their ID to lunch, as many often do, can either scan their ID on their phone or type in their number.
State High’s decision to switch from manually entering student numbers to employing ID card scanning for lunch orders is a plan aimed at enhancing students’ experience. State High is ensuring that students’ daily routines are as efficient and enjoyable as possible.
