On May 27, State High will film its first lip dub since 2012. This upcoming lip dub will showcase the different clubs and sports that students participate in at State High.
A lip dub is a video musical compilation that follows people through a scene, featuring them lip-syncing to popular music. Lip dubs include props and choreography to create a story throughout the video.
The lip dub will be showcasing the various activities students participate in. Students will be illustrating their contributions to State High through sports teams, academic clubs, and other interest-based activities.
The senior class has been working hard this past year to create a lip dub that properly displays the community at State High. Seniors Lila Franklin, Ellory Potter, Michael Powell, Luke Cessna, and Dylan Briggs are recognized for leading the planning of the lip dub, along with the rest of the senior class.
“We have a group of students who were seniors, who wanted to do something special, and leave a lasting legacy. And to kind of show Pennsylvania, whoever, what our school culture is like,” State High Principal Laura Tobias said.
The lip dub gives the senior class an opportunity to create something that will be remembered for years to come and possibly inspire future students.
Additionally, the school building itself has changed a lot since 2012, such as eliminating the North building. Therefore, the outline of where the lip dub will follow is altered.
The lip dub will give State High the chance to represent its newer aspects of the high school, not to mention the way the State High community has changed over the years. Pop culture itself has shifted in the past decade from being mostly centralized mass media to being more focused on individuality and personal connection.
“I think culture is different. So I feel like the lip dub is showcasing our school in our community. Which it just, it has changed over time since the last one was made,” Tobias said.
The culture at State High has also changed. With the introduction of new clubs, sports, activities, etc, students are able to represent State High in different ways.
The senior class at State High is responsible for the overall production of this upcoming lip dub. The Senior class initially came up with the idea to film a lip dub this year, leading the direction that the lip dub will be taking.
“From what I understood, even those teachers that were involved, they kind of took a step back because the kids really took over. So I think it’s very student-driven,” Earth Systems Science teacher Eugene Ruocchio said.
The seniors have been working over the past year planning the songs, timing, dates, and many other details that go into the lip dub.
“Well, we’ve been meeting all year. When they first came with the suggestion, and then now we are meeting more. Since January to now, I would say we’ve been meeting at least once a month. And then, now more recently, probably every week,” Tobias said.
The creation of the upcoming lip dub has taken nearly this entire school year, ensuring that the thought and attention to detail discussed in meetings will be seen in the final product.
The students and staff members who worked on the upcoming lip dub will have the opportunity to show off all their dedication and time put towards this project on May 27.
