The Writer’s Strike Finishes Preceding Holiday Season

The Writer’s Strike ended earlier in Sept. 2023. Before this, the strike continued for a while, starting all the way back in May. Even though the strike has concluded, it still leaves fans with many questions.

Many movies have been postponed for various companies. Writers wanted a change for their contracts. unsatisfied writers caused the film industry’s strike to go into action in the first place.   Companies in film went into a shut-down position because no films could be created without the writers. Companies that took the largest hits relating to postponed movies were Disney, Universal, and  Warner Brothers.

If movies and shows cannot be written, it does not just hurt the film companies and the writers, but also the actors and actresses. This left many actors and actresses without jobs for some time. Shows have been postponed due to the writer’s strike as well.

Fans may have been hurt the most because they are the ones who carry the industry. Without fans, there would be no films to be watched.  “I didn’t know a whole lot about it, but I did know [it was going on],”  State High Sophomore, Connor Young said.

Movies that have been affected by the strike are “Avatar”, “Ghostbusters”, “Frozen Empire””Godzilla X Kong”, “New Empire
,”The Lord of the Rings — War of the Rohirrum”, “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse”,”Tron Ares”, and various “Star Wars” movies.

Some fans of shows and movies follow beloved characters, which could be lost due to the lack of films being produced. This delayed the films from coming out which could hurt the number of people that would have watched them.

“I’ve notice that there haven’t been as many movies coming out and it’s frustrating cause I  like going to the theater, I like watching movies,“ Young said.

Now that the strike has finished up, movies should get back to being created, but this has not been specifically stated. More movies and shows could be postponed, or possibly even canceled if the writers do not get back to work soon.

The reaction to this continual lack of movies and shows varies.  “It depends, people who are diehards probably care,” Young said.

Lucky for companies in the film industry, they do not need to worry anymore. Writers can come back and continue to make new shows and story lines.  More movies can be put on the big screen. Actors can come back and start filming. As time continues, the industry can hope that a strike like this does not happen for a good while into the future.
