Dan Fravel has officially been inducted into this year’s Clinton and Centre County Baseball Hall of Fame, honoring a career that has left a lasting impact on baseball in both Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Fravel played baseball at Penn State University before beginning a successful coaching career. He won two Maryland state championships at Rising Sun High School in 1997 and 2000 and later guided Bellefonte High School to a PIAA Class AAA State Championship in 2016.

Being inducted into the Hall of Fame holds deep personal significance for Fravel, who grew up in Clinton County.

“Clinton and Centre County Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2025 induction this summer was a huge honor,” Fravel said. “I grew up in Beech Creek, Clinton County, and baseball always was and is a huge part of my life as a player and as a coach.”

Fravel credits baseball with plenty of personal development.

“The game of baseball has helped shape me into the person I am today, and is responsible for so many of my strong family bonds and friendships that I have made over the years.  I’ve always been driven to make my parents proud of me, and to share this passion with my own three children,” Fravel said.

After nearly 30 years of coaching high school varsity baseball, Fravel says the connections built along the way are what matter most to him.

“The memories and bonds with my players are one of the things I treasure most in life,” Fravel said. “Using the game of baseball as a vehicle to teach the game of life, and to watch a teenager grow into a young man, husband, and father is super neat. My dream is to simply pass along the passion of the game of baseball to others so that they can pass it along as well.”

Fravel also acknowledged the significance of the Hall of Fame itself, which was founded by his close friend Justin Kline, who passed away after a long battle with cancer.

“Creating the Hall of Fame was one of Justin’s dreams to help keep the local baseball community strong and passionate,” Fravel said.

Fravel’s influence has extended to State College Area High School, where the baseball team finished the season with a 35-12 record under his leadership. His impact continues to be felt throughout the program.

Nate Tyndall, a freshman at State High who plans to play baseball for the team, believes Fravel’s legacy reaches far beyond wins and losses.

“He’s impacted the community in a great and fantastic way. Him being inducted to the…hall of fame has had a major impact on the sport we know today, and how baseball has become a better sport,” Tyndall said.

Baseball continues to thrive in Pennsylvania and Maryland, with about 14% of kids nationwide playing the sport in 2025, this being one of the highest participation rates in recent years. Fravel played a major role in growing interest in baseball, encouraging many students to get involved with the game.

Rashad Sheffey, another freshman at State High, wasn’t always interested in baseball but eventually found a love for the sport.

“The baseball team is awesome. It is just one big family. Everyone is friends and no one is enemies. It is just one big culture,” Sheffey said.

Fravel continues to impact students daily as a math teacher and remains a favorite among both students and staff. His legacy at State High and in the surrounding communities will continue to grow for years to come.
