State High has announced a head coaching change for the softball team, effective Monday. Former Head Coach Scott Kaminske was just five games into his first season at the helm after serving as an assistant coach for the last four years.

State College Area School District Athletic Director Loren Crispell informed the softball community of the change in an email after he told the team at Monday’s practice.

“While this transition is unexpected, we thank Scott Kaminske for his dedication to the State High Softball program and wish him the best moving forward,” Crispell wrote in the email. “Our priority now is to move ahead, identify new coaching leadership, and continue supporting our student-athletes during this time.”

The district has not yet made a decision on who will lead the team going forward, but assistant coach Vanessa Gordon fulfilled the role in yesterday’s 15-0 loss to Central Dauphin.

Crispell told the Lions’ Digest, “We remain committed to putting a staff in place that can offer our team the best path to success during the rest of the season,” but declined to comment further.

The team’s next game is scheduled for Thursday on the road against Altoona.
