On Oct.20, 2023, the hit video game Spider-Man 2 officially released. The new game is set in the aftermath of both the Spider-Man and Spider-Man Miles Morales games, which were both highly praised among players and critics alike. Spider-Man got 88% while Spider-Man Miles Morales got 85% from critics, meaning that percentage of critics had a positive review for the game.

The Spider-Man game series are all Playstation exclusives, meaning they are only available on Playstation. The reason is because Sony, who has the rights to Spider-Man, also owns Playstation. This doesn’t hurt them though, as many people will get a playstation for the games, which gives them profit.

Spider-Man 2 though, has players even more excited. “They were good, however they pale in comparison to the newest game [Spider-Man 2]” Cooper Zettlemoyer, a sophomore at State High, said.

The previous games only had one Spider Man, but this one has both. Miles Morales and Peter Parker’s Spider-Men fighting crime side by side expands the story even more. Both Peter Parker and Miles Morales have their own quests outside of the main story that can continue to bring excitement to the game.

With a new game comes a new story, and this one features the Venom symbiote and Kraven The Hunter, as well as few characters from previous games.

“My favorite part is hands down the story and the gameplay, the story is so good and one of my favorites.” Rasik Cruden, sophomore at State High, said about the game.

The Spider-Man 2 main story takes roughly 17 hours to complete. The amount of detail the creators put into this game is impressive. The gameplay area includes Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and Coney Island. Add onto that the amount of detail in the side stories and easter eggs in the game.

There’s also many items, like suits, to collect. In total there are 71 suits, 35 for Peter Parker and 36 for Miles Morales. Both include suits from different movies they have been in or other appearances and new suits you can earn playing the game.

Gameplay is also a key piece in the Spider-Man games. In Spider-Man 2 the developers added a new addition called ‘Web Wings’ which allow you to glide around the city. They also added slip streams around the city, which gives a boost to be able to continue a glide.

“I would rate it a 9 because it has very engaging gameplay and a very interesting story. It loses a point for not having some features that were in previous games, such as changing the weather.” Zettlemoyer explained. Cruden also shared his rating coming in as a 9.5 saying it is definitely close to being a perfect game.

An important piece of any game is how it can compare to other games. Both Zettlemoyer and Cruden say that this game and that this could definitely be Game of The Year worthy.

With many players calling this Game of The Year worthy, critics gave it a score of a whopping 91%. Both Cruden and Zettlemoyer say that the game is definitely worth buying especially if you are a Spider-Man fan.
