The release of “Michael,” the new biographical film about Michael Jackson, has quickly become a popular topic in entertainment. Premiering in late April, the film aims to tell the story of Jackson’s rise to global fame, his groundbreaking influence on music, and the complexities of his personal life. As more people hear about the movie, it is receiving a mix of reactions from audiences, including students at State High.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the movie captures Jackson’s career through 1988, from his early days with the Jackson 5 to his reign as the “King of Pop.” Known for hit songs like “Thriller” and “Billie Jean,” Jackson transformed the music industry through his unique style, choreography, and record-breaking performances. The film highlights these achievements while also touching on the challenges and controversies surrounding his life.

For many fans, the movie is a chance to look back at Jackson’s career and remember why he was so influential. His impact can still be seen today in modern artists, dance styles, and even social media trends. The film has helped bring his work back into conversations, especially among younger audiences.

“I think the movie was really good… it did a good job of telling Michael’s story in a nutshell,” senior Miley McLaughlin said.

She also pointed out a powerful moment, saying the most memorable scene was when Jackson announced it was his last tour while looking directly at his father.

Others were impressed by how realistic the performances felt. “I thought the movie was one of the best movies I have ever seen,” sophomore Daeshon Hardison said. “As someone who didn’t grow up when he was alive, it was great to see how popular he really was as an artist.”

He continued, saying one of the most memorable parts was a scene when a young Jackson performs “Who’s Lovin’ You,” noting how closely the actor’s voice matched the real singer.

Many students also believe the movie is worth watching. “100 percent, other students should go and watch the movie,” Hardison said, adding it’s even better to watch with someone who also enjoys Michael Jackson’s music.

Another student, freshman Noelle Titus, also shared a positive reaction. “I thought the movie was very realistic and was a good replica of Michael Jackson’s life,” she said.

She added that the most memorable moment for her was when Jackson performed the “Thriller” music video for the first time, calling the movie exciting and saying she would “definitely go see it again.”

At the same time, the film has led to questions about how it tells Jackson’s story. Like many biographical films, “Michael” must balance showing his success with addressing the more complicated parts of his life. Some viewers believe the film should focus more on his achievements, while others think it should present a more complete and honest picture.

Overall, the release of “Michael” shows how Michael Jackson’s influence remains strong today. Whether people watch the movie as fans, out of curiosity, or to form their own opinions, it continues to spark conversation. For students at State High, the film is not just entertainment; it’s also an opportunity to reflect on the legacy of one of music’s most iconic figures.
