On Sept. 20, State High held its annual Homecoming Dance. This year, the dance was held in the North Delta gym. Students from both State High and Delta were welcome to attend this event.
Leading up to the homecoming dance each year, students are shopping online, going to stores and brainstorming ideas for their homecoming dresses. Usually, every year, there are a few very popular websites that specialize in homecoming dresses.
There are certain styles of dresses that are trending, many of them are seen at homecoming. Some girls want to fit in with the crowd, but some want to have their own style and stand out more.
“I thought it was a little bit different from others because it was a white dress with lace on it, and it’s a corset with a square neck top. I really liked it,” freshman Adyson Barter said. “I thought it was, like, the perfect length. It wasn’t too short, too long. It was really easier for me to dance in”.
However, freshman Matisse Wilson had a different style and idea for her dress.
“[My dress] was light purple, and it was a lot above knee length. And then it had straps that were purple. It was a square neck. And it had a pretty back … I really liked it,” Wilson said. ”However, I couldn’t really move in it, but it was still really pretty. I felt that it mattered.”
In 2024, dresses with sparkles and sequins seemed to be the top style. A lot of students wore pinks and dark green last year. While the style of the dresses has been pretty similar, every year, there seems to be different colors trending. This year saw a lot of navy blue and red, and a lot of flowery dresses.
Along with the dresses every year, students wear accessories and shoes to complement their outfits. Girls usually wear bracelets, necklaces earrings, or rings. Both Barter and Wilson wore gold jewelry. There were many pieces of jewelry from Kendra Scott and Evry Jewels.
Barter said, “I had gold heels and all the gold jewelry. I really thought my dress paired well with my jewelry”.
Wilson also said, “I wore my Kendra Scott mini necklace, and then gold chunky hoops.”
After the dance ended at 9:30, students now have a full year to think about and look forward to the next round of awesome dresses.
